Announcements for the week of 09/17/2017
New Stewardship Opportunities
On the 1st Saturday of every month from 8 am to noon we are cleaning, gardening, painting and repairing our little church and as Junior Warden in charge of building and grounds I need your help! Snacks, drinks and coffee are provided. Wear your old clothes and bring your own tools if you want. We need to paint the shed and the gate to Headstart, spray wash the parish hall, and clear the brush on Magnolia. In Fall we will plant drought tolerant plants and clear the turf to reduce our water and sewer bill. We also need to clean the old stove. Finally, we need to earthquake proof our bookcases and shelves. There’s lots to do and we need you on our team! If you can’t come every first Saturday, please come at least once!! It’s Stewardship of God’s house! Call Sandy Parks for more info or if you have questions: 760-533-5321. God bless you!!
2018 Stewardship Campaign
In September we will begin our Stewardship Campaign for fiscal year 2018 (yes it’s coming soon!!). If you are not currently tithing (giving 10% of your income to God) perhaps you can take a step toward that goal and increase the amount you are giving by 10%. Whatever you do, do it joyfully! Our little parish does so much for our neighbors in El Cajon: food, and tutoring for refugees; food, fellowship, spiritual food and laundry services for the homeless; providing a community garden, lending our parish hall to support groups, sharing our church with the Hispanic Iglesia, Sunday School, home visits, prayer chain, and so much more!! Your gift helps improve so many lives. We will share these ministries with you in the coming weeks. Our goal is for everyone to turn in a pledge card for 2018! Questions? Contact Karen Garcia or Sandy Parks.
Welcome Church and Meal in the park
The Welcome Church (the church without walls), and the picnic in the park takes place on the 4th Sunday of each month. Next meeting time is Sunday, Sept 24, from 3:00 – 4:00pm, at Wells Park. We need volunteers after coffee hour to help with food preparation and loading tables and chairs to transport to the park. If you would like more information about participating in this ministry contact Father Dave or Program Coordinator Victoria Mayor through St Alban’s office at (619) 444-8212, Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 9am-1pm.
Tuesday Service Added
The Joy Knight Memorial Refugee Task Force presents a new opportunity for community involvement. Every Tuesday morning there will be a bilingual English/Arabic Eucharistic Service. On the first and third Tuesdays this will begin at 8:30am and be followed by the Food Pantry, distributing food to our local refugee community. All other Tuesdays the service will be at 9:15am and followed by a coffee hour in the Parish Hall.
RefugeeNet Needs Volunteers
Meet interesting people from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East – volunteer to help distribute food to refugee families from around the world. Or volunteer to tutor refugee children one or more afternoons a week. The office needs help with implementing and maintaining a database. RefugeeNet is looking for people with hearts to serve. It’s fun and fulfilling. For more information, contact the Executive Director, Jake Young, via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
